The dream: Salvador
SailBlogs &bull Feb 12, 2012
What a place! Arriving after 13 days at sea was just amazing. We had not read up on Brazil and had no literature of the country on board and never knew what to expect but what we saw was amazing. The city is really old and then there is a brand new city which is absolutely amazing with sky scrapers everywhere. Amazing as usual we were immediately helped to do our first Med style mooring. The old city is being re-located for the World Cup Soccer and the Olympic Games but what amazes is the fact that the old buildings… Full Story »

Oceans Dream: South island.
SailBlogs &bull Feb 12, 2012
We resume our New Zealand adventures in the capital, Wellington. We booked into an apartment for a couple of days before catching the ferry across to South Island. It was great to meet up with Kiwi friends Jane and John who were also visiting Wellington and took us under their wing, pointing us in the direction of the 'Must-Sees' and taking us to some of the best eateries in town. On a tour of Parliament, the presence of a recently elected MPs family enhanced the visit. The Interisland ferry took 3 hours to cross from North to South island. From… Full Story »

Cruising the South Pacific: Finally
SailBlogs &bull Feb 12, 2012
Aloha from the tiny Island of Liapari in the Western Province. After 10 days, we ( John Kristel and I ) finally made it here. John is my new crew . We were stuck in nadi Fiji for 4 days after our flight to Honiara was canceled due to bad weather i.e. We made the most of it at this wild backpacker hostel (Bamboo). I then left for Honiara on Sat. but John lost his passport and couldn't make the flight. He stayed there until tues. Me… Full Story »

Good Karma: Rum Cay
SailBlogs &bull Feb 10, 2012
We explored Rum today. Sadly, this island took a significant hit from Irene. It is the worst we have seen so far. Clint had a customer whose friend owns Sumner Point Marina. He told Clint all about it & Clint couldn't wait to check it & the island out. Unfortunately, the marina suffered a lot of damage. Boats can still come in and dock; however, most of the docks were damaged. The original channel filled in with an unbelievable amount of sand and with our draft I don't think we could have gotten in. Even with all the damage, it… Full Story »

Sailing matilda: Goodbye Panama, Hello Galapagos
SailBlogs &bull Feb 10, 2012
The last night in Panama was very enjoyable, with a full prize giving ceremony, entertainment from a winner of the Brazilian Pop Idol, hunky backing dancers that could fire-breath and a fireworks display (all a bit surreal). We are not sure how we managed it, but we came in third in our division on corrected time for the Caribbean sea crossing and we won a prize for being the closest on predicted time of arrival. All I can think is that we were mistaken on our calendar dates! For the first time in my life I have had a taste… Full Story »

Slow Sailing: Going south till the butter melts...
SailBlogs &bull Feb 10, 2012
It is Friday, February 10th and we are underway in the Windward Passage between Cuba & Haiti. We sailed all night and then today the wind is lighter so we're motoring. We hurried up and got ourselves to Georgetown, Bahamas to get the boat loaded up with produce & fuel, do laundry, etc in order to use this light weather window since we had some easting to do. We left on Wednesday and hope to continue straight through to the Panama Canal if we can, just to get back on track for timing. So far it has been a most… Full Story »
