Itchy feet is a terminal condition: Launch Week
SailBlogs &bull Feb 12, 2012
It's been a good week in more ways than one....in fact it's been a great week. We launched our Fontaine Pajot 42 into the cold waters of St Augustine (north Florida) and are staying at a fantastic little marina called Rivers Edge. The bar Hurricane Patty's is as American as apple pie and and irresistible distraction from working on our lovely Catamaran. Her name is Echo however when all the paperwork is completed she will be our very own Ooroo. For those non Australian readers check out the definition of Ooroo at http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ooroo=6378893 I wrote the definition myself. We got… Full Story »

IN THE MED / Wind, Wind and More Wind
TripSailor &bull Feb 12, 2012
No, not the beans but the Tramontana, the wind that sometimes blows in this part of the world. It blew continuously for five days. Our wind instruments recorded a maximum gust of just over 48 knots and a fairly steady F6-8. The noise in the boatyard had… Full Story »

Butterfly adventures: Tires and Apples
SailBlogs &bull Feb 12, 2012
As you can see, there is a little difference in how a grocery store is laid out here. It is something like the Fred Meyer of old, but just a bit skewed from that as well. The produce at the local Mega store is absolutely great, and the prices are the same! We spend maybe $70-$80 a week for groceries here and probably could spend a lot less if we shopped more at the Mercado, but the Mega is easy and where else can you get tires and produce in the same trip? We have found a few things that… Full Story »

This IS retirement: Northerly Slog
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2012
After a few days in Zihuatanejo and the day after the Super Bowl I weighed anchor and set out for points north. I did a 35 mile run over to Lazaro Cardenas, which is a stinky commercial port but has a nice flat anchorage in a cul de sac right off the ocean. After a very flat and calm night I pulled out of there for the next anchorage (Caleta De Campos) about 40 miles up the coast. I pulled into the anchorage that afternoon and was not happy with the huge ocean swells making their way into the anchorage.… Full Story »

Stars, Sails - the Parallax View: Waiting for... Transmission?
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2012
Well, we're at a marina again... The weather was full of lightning and thunder last night not too far off, and this morning is the usual after such a thing passes: wind from the north. Right now it's still from the NW, but it will clock around as the day passes, and the forecast has it building up to nearly 30 mph. That's hairy-chested weather for sailors, but if it's pointing against the Gulf Stream, that's insane weather for crossing. Not to worry, the new transmission can't be here before Tuesday... The cat seems to be better. She's sleeping a… Full Story »

Ya Ha Ha Ting: DAY 102 OF OUR GREAT ADVENTURE
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2012
Listening to Chris Parkers weather and looking at the crossing weather forecast we are here at least through Monday night. As it looks we will TRY to cross on Tuesday or Wednesday. That means leaving the dock at 5:00AM and sticking our nose into the Atlantic and actually get bounced around in the dark for a while. I am pasting below the current forecast. It is unbelievable to me that we cannot ever get a few calm days. Friday we didn't do much. It had rained more and we are trying to dry out cushions and some of the below… Full Story »
