Living the Dream: St. Augustine
SailBlogs &bull Dec 16, 2011
DAY 10 - December 15th 2011 - St. We like St. Augustine so we decided to stay another day and do more sightseeing. Doug did some work on the gib while I worked below and then the marina came over and pumped us out, what service all for $22.00. We left the boat about noon and spent the afternoon touring around on the trolley bus and getting off at different spots. We even ended up in jail, watched muskets and canons being fired. Checked out some museums, ate… Full Story »

Aboard Chameleon: Where is Jimmy?
SailBlogs &bull Dec 15, 2011
The last time we had stopped in St Barts it was nearing Easter and most of the island was closed for Good Friday. Now that we are in the Christmas season I can say that St Barts is wide open for business. After leaving Antigua at 4 AM on Monday, Dec. 12, we arrived in Gustavio anchorage at 4:45 PM. It was an uneventfal and long motor with light winds on the nose and a 5 foot swell. Gustavio is the main town on St Barts and there were several mega yachts in the harbor and tied up in the… Full Story »

JUNESSA is staying dry for the winter!: FLYING OVER AFGHANISTAN
SailBlogs &bull Dec 15, 2011
My newest job location.... Kandahar Province, Afghanistan... It ALMOST like flying around Hawaii... except no palm trees, no water, very little green... In all honesty, it's very beautiful from the air! I would love to fly around with the doors off and a good camera in my hands!!! The light here can be so dramatic! Art Work at Port Townsend, Washington... Winter is on it's way! I'm starting to settle down in my new job in Afghanistan... The sand and dust was really kicking my butt at first, but i'm starting to get used to it. The country has a… Full Story »

My Liberty Bay : Albin Vega Interior view
SailBlogs &bull Dec 15, 2011
Had a very calm day out here, so I climbed into the dinghy with my handle brush and cleaned the organic algae and grunge. This entails a hand clinging to the gunnel of the sailboat, while laying sprawled flat and… Full Story »

SailBlogs &bull Dec 15, 2011
Well here we are finally trying to catch up since the last entry. If I repeat anything please forgive me, we have already done and seen so much it's hard to keep track much less write it all down. Meaning that we are having the time of our lives!! We left San Carlos for Cabo San Lucas on a Thursday, date unknown cuz we really don't keep track of what day it is. We arrived in Cabo on a Saturday and we were pleasantly surprised to find that some of our cruising pals were there. Greg and Calel from Foreign… Full Story »

SailBlogs &bull Dec 14, 2011
Monday morning I got up at dawn as is my custom to see this Catamaran aground on the reef behind me. The picture doesnt really do it justice but as I looked at it the small reef waves were breaking right at the boat. Chrispammel: Marsh Harbour
SailBlogs &bull Dec 14, 2011
We've been having strong easterly winds while in Marsh Harbour, the recommendations are to stay away from any of the cuts and passages as they are to dangerous to navigate in a small boat. There's about a dozen or so boats anchored here but it's a large harbour and everyone is well spread out, some people… Full Story »

SailBlog: It never rains ...
SailBlogs &bull Dec 14, 2011
We finally left Woburn a week last Saturday (only a day late this time) and made it all the way (30 miles) to Carriacou, with a slight 40 miles detour out towards to Tobago. Tony and Devon are on board and Jeff has come along for the ride. The first leg of the trip was fairly uneventful as the Christmas winds haven't kicked in yet and the weather has been relatively calm for the last month or so, and we caught a good sized tuna (the first one we've had for quite some time). Unfortunately I got a bit sea-sick… Full Story »

Merlin to the Bahamas: Ashore in Paradise
SailBlogs &bull Dec 14, 2011
My "bird book" told us we'd hear roosters--sure enough, that was the first thing we heard yesterday when we neared the island, and those birds woke us up this morning! And, they keep crowing until you get up! Listened to the weather report this morning (Chris Parker, shortwave), and had to make a quick decision--stay put until Thursday, or quickly take off? We decided to stay, and had a great day! We had read that you could rent bikes, so Wes tried calling one of the places, and they suggested the marina. We dinghied ashore, and hiked to the marina… Full Story »

Exploring the World by Sail from A to Z: No more peanuts!
SailBlogs &bull Dec 13, 2011
Day 3 - No more peanuts! Here the mornings are long and slow. Usually they are overcast and often rainy. There is not usually much wind. We wait for things to dry up a bit, the wind to pick up before we sail. After our leisurely coffee and breakfast, around 10:30 we decide to sail. First we must raise the anchor which requires… Full Story »
