Diary of a Galley Wench: Grenada HASH
SailBlogs &bull Feb 12, 2012
Fun Day! We had a great morning w/ the Mt Airy Reading Group. Jim had 2 7yr old boys while I got to read w/3 13yr olds. I thoroughly enjoyed helping them work through pronunciations, story recollection & we even talked about what might happen next. We played hangman w/words they had trouble pronouncing &/or knowing the meaning of. I look forward to returning next week. After lunch the 3 of us set out to participate in our first HASH. We pulled into the parking lot of a rum distillery along w/approx 150+other people. I had no idea it was… Full Story »

Sound Effect does the big U: Rio Dulce
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2012
This morning we arrived at Marios Marina in the Rio Dulce Guatemala! What an adventure since our last entry. Our internet stick ran out for Honduras and we have had no internet capability until we purchased a new stick in Guatemala. We also were unable to operate the SSB email connection due to propagation issues and problems with the Pactor modem. But all is well now. We planned an overnight sail to a staging area for the entry over the bar into the Rio Dulce. However the wind did not cooperate and we motor sailed into the wind for 15… Full Story »

Ya Ha Ha Ting: DAY 102 OF OUR GREAT ADVENTURE
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2012
Listening to Chris Parkers weather and looking at the crossing weather forecast we are here at least through Monday night. As it looks we will TRY to cross on Tuesday or Wednesday. That means leaving the dock at 5:00AM and sticking our nose into the Atlantic and actually get bounced around in the dark for a while. I am pasting below the current forecast. It is unbelievable to me that we cannot ever get a few calm days. Friday we didn't do much. It had rained more and we are trying to dry out cushions and some of the below… Full Story »

Diary of a Galley Wench: Another day in Grenada
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2012
Yesterdays cooking class was rather enjoyable. We were shown how to make Callaloo Lasagna. Callaloo is very similar to spinach, grows in everyones back yard, along a ditch as it needs much water, very large leaves. Weird thing is I could not find it at the grocery store today.!? Anyways, Omega & Ester were very entertaining and do not be surprised if you ended up seeing them on the Food Channel one day. The location was a the deck restaurant of True Blue Resort - I could have sat there all afternoon. This morning we took the 'bus' to town… Full Story »

SailBlogs &bull Feb 10, 2012
Still in Wilmington and it is really cold. We only have a little heater that can't run on high. What else could go wrong? Well this morning we woke up to burning electrical and wet feet. We both jumped out of bed and couldn't locate the burning smell. Never did locate it - maybe it was from the outside - hope so. Then the wet… Full Story »

Watt sailing adventure: Coffee around the Country
SailBlogs &bull Feb 10, 2012
Coffee has been a big part of my life for a long time. From helping to open and then run a cafe for many years and then opening the cafe training site at Red Hill with Inanna, I have become accustomed to making and enjoying good coffee as a daily part of life. I knew where all the good cafe's were in Canberra, and made a habit of visiting them frequently! Dealing with my coffee issues was a significant thing when we were getting ready to live on board Argos and leave our home. I tried a few different ways… Full Story »

Ya Ha Ha Ting: DAY 101 OF OUR GREAT ADVENTURE
SailBlogs &bull Feb 10, 2012
Stuck in lake Park. the weather JUST is not going to happend any time soon. At least it looks until Monday. We have been in this slip since January 26! This morning the wind was howling again. Boat is shaking around in it's slip. At least it's warm. But, we think tha's about to change again. Think we might rent a car and go to the movies. Or for $4.00 we can ride the Route 1 bus all day long and just go bus exploring. Ate some fish on board tonight. Kind of stir crazy in some ways. We are… Full Story »

The Island adventure cruise ...
Zensekai II &bull Jan 16, 2012
Every year for an unknown amount of time, at least by me, there is a regatta around the island of Alameda. Last year we I wanted to go but there was talk of rain. So there was no trip for me. Some went, but not me. I watched them go through the mud flats from our Apt. The mud flats are an area that at low tide there is no water just mud. Except for a small area about 24 ft across that is barley deep enough for a shallow draft boat to fit through. It is famous for that.… Full Story »
