Sequitur: To Puerto Vallarta
SailBlogs &bull 1 Hour Ago
Edi had accepted an offer on her house on Vancouver Island, and the deal was closing, so she decided to fly back to Canada to make sure everything fell properly into place. Thankfully, the Olympics were over; our loft is adjacent to Vancouver's Olympic Village, and had she gone a week or two earlier, getting around would have been nearly impossible. She planned on spending a few days there and to run a lot of errands. There is over five months of mail… Full Story »

The Voyages of s/v Silverheels III: Cheap Entertainment at Marina Cay
SailBlogs &bull Feb 17, 2010
Ken and I arrived at Marina Cay at about 10:30 this morning. We looked in at Trellis Bay, but decided that the laundry opportunity at Marina Cay warranted us going there instead. We can always make that big 1 mile hop over to Trellis tomorrow or the next day. We went ashore and got the laundry started. At $8.00 for a wash and dry, this is similar to the prices we saw in the Bahamas. Luperon sort of spoiled me with 30 lbs of laundry done for me for about $15.00! However, it is still better than doing it by… Full Story »

SAILING AWAY ON ZEPHYR: Enough!
SailBlogs &bull Feb 15, 2010
Today we shoveled the snow off the porch and sidewalk for the last time for a while! We've had enough all ready. We're going to mosey around the keys for a week or so and then move on to Key West to help other friends start their catamaran's journey north...slowly..being careful to keep the butter soft. We're not coming back until the robins are nesting! Save room for us! We've escaped! Would have loved to be able to say we sailed to Kona, HI, but airbus is a whole lot faster. So, so nice to be warm. We're staying at… Full Story »

Island Hopping: St. John and a day Sail to Montserrat
SailBlogs &bull Feb 11, 2010
We took a "bus" that looked like a like a taxi but it was cheaper than a taxi so it was labeled a bus. We are getting the hang of this place after all. So we took the bus into St. John which was in some parts even poorer than most Mexico towns! The cruise boats come into the harbor and see the cruise docks which are tourist trap stuff but don't see that poor side. Very old structures, most single room houses sitting on a few cinder blocks. Did some shopping for local fresh fruit, had a nice lunch… Full Story »

I managed to scrounge an autohelm 6000 and a B & G wind indicator from a chap on the marine who was leaving recently. I have fitted the instrument into the bulhead and the wind direction and anonometer on the stern rail. I need to get the plugs for the power and to connect the instrument to the indicator. The Autohelm is a different story and will require a linear drive in addition to all of the parts that I already have. Haven't even thought about sourcing one of those yet. I have had soem recent problems with the enginbe… Full Story »
