SV THIRD DAY: The Capt's Rumored Return
SailBlogs &bull Sep 2, 2010
It's a good thing that Lori and the crew are getting along so well without me, because as each planned return day comes and goes, my stay here in San Diego gets more tiring. It's not that I don't mind the cool weather; it's just that my mind is still in Cruiser mode, while my body has been tortured into real-life-work mode. But it's time to end this San Diego work run and get back to THIRD DAY if only for… Full Story »

How we survived the Pacific Cup
EVK4 SuperBlog &bull Sep 1, 2010
Everyone knows there are a lot of dangers out on the open ocean: whales, pirates, container ships, airborne aquatic simians, rogue waves and bad helmsmen who crash sailboats in less than 30 knots of wind are the most common. But… Full Story »

North Bar Halibut Outside the Gate 8/20/10
SF Boater &bull Sep 1, 2010
Went halibut fishing with Captain Perry, deckhand Mikey, and the Sea Turtle outside the gate on the north bar. Yet another great reason to go fishing on the turtle is that Captain Perry has a bait receiver. What that means is that even if you cannot buy live bait, Perry will have live bait. Live bait is essential. After a minor bit is technical difficulty, we headed out the golden gate to the north bar. We were… Full Story »

SV THIRD DAY: I am Captain, Hear Me Roar
SailBlogs &bull Aug 31, 2010
I am Captain, hear me roar! A quick note to say I have done something that I had never thought I would be able to do. As you know, Rich has a way with the written word and he talks as much as he writes. OK, maybe he talks even more than he writes. He is a Southbound Net Controller (or at least he will be again when he gets back) and the Southbound Net Manager (same thing, he will get back into the groove when he is back home with us) so he talks a whole lot. I have… Full Story »

Cruising to Calm: Settling In
SailBlogs &bull Aug 29, 2010
I've learned that making a 'living' is not the same as 'making a life'." Maya Angelou. This is the story of the Brown family adventure. We have pulled roots in NY and are taking our two kids ages 4 1 on a five year cruise. Things have gone back to normal. We are no longer on the island, the kids are in school and O is working like a madman. It is hard to believe that we have been here since January the time has flown by. This is the longest we have been in one place since begining this… Full Story »

SV THIRD DAY: Out on Our Own
SailBlogs &bull Aug 26, 2010
The anchor was down at Sweet Pea anchorage at 535 yesterday afternoon. I was wanting to go out away from the hard walls of the Santa Rosalia harbor incase a Chubasco hit but I have never taken any of our boats (the MacGregor, the Pearson, or this boat) out to sea without her captain onboard. What helped me make up my mind was the Port Captain. He said that Hotspur, Ceilydh, and THIRD DAY had to move. We were too close to the dock. Ugh... We had already been thru a 30kt blow and not budged an inch where we… Full Story »
